The new version of FreeNAS 11.0 has been released. This new version of FreeNAS brings manjor changes to its web UI. There were many complaints on the previous FreeNAS 10.0 aka Corral. Now the new FreeNAS 11.0 is based on FreeBSD 11 STABLE and it uses FreeNAS 9.10 in term of the user interface design. It still in Beta but the new UI performs pretty faster and lightweight than the previous one.
FreeNAS 11.0 comes with two different UI design. The new UI can be chosen on Login page.
But for now, I would prefer the old style until this new UI is marked as stable.
Is that all ?
Nope. FreeNAS 11.0 brings Virtual Machine back to the good. Now we can manage (add, delete and edit) virtual machines from the web UI. And to be honest, this VM manager is very easy to use. There still Plugins and Jail on the system where we can add more functionality to FreeNAS.
New Amazon S3 Support
The new FreeNAS 11.0 includes support to Amazon S3 Storage. We can connect to our Amazon S3 account and access our files directly from FreeNAS. I have’t tried this feature but it seems useful.
Better User Guide
On this release, we can easily access FreeNAS user guide directly from the web UI. There are things needs to improved but for now, the user guide is pretty helpful.
FreeNAS 11.0 brings new web UI, aimed to be better than the FreeNAS Corral. And today, the FreeNAS Team show their proof of work in FreeNAS 11. The new Web UI is still in Beta but it is usable, even the font are still too big for my screen. So, if you interested, you can download and use FreeNAS 11.0 on your network. You can download the ISO file from the link below.
