The new Manjaro 18.1.0 code name Juhraya is now available. Today, I had a chance to write my personal review of this great Linux distribution, Manjaro 18.1.0. I choose the Gnome edition simply because Gnome works better for me. Manjaro 18.1.0 is available in many flavors including KDE Plasma, Gnome, XFCE and you can also choose from the community version as well.
What’s New
The new Manjaro 18.1.0 brings Gnome 3.32.2 which the latest stable version available.
Choose FreeOffice or LibreOffice
If you are a Manjaro user, you may notice that in this new release, the LibreOffice is not installed by default like other previous versions. In this release, we can choose LibreOffice or FreeOffice 2018. For your information, FreeOffice is a well-known office suite software developed by German developer SoftMaker. You can also choose not to install one of them at all.
Flatpak Support
Another great feature you may found on Manjaro 18.10 is the integration of FlatPak and Snap packages. To handle the use of FlatPak or Snap, Manjaro provide “bauh”, a package manager for FlatPak and Snap.
There are many other improvements have been added to this release such as a better Manjaro installer which lets us to install Manjaro in a few clicks.
Personally, I do love Manjaro because of many reasons. I tried many other Linux distributions including Fedora, Linux Mint, Ubuntu, CentOS and some others. But, Manjaro is simply works for me out of the box. I can play my favorite music, movies without having to install codecs or any third party software.
Another reason is how easy to install software in Manjaro. You don’t need to find the specific software package made for Manjaro or Arch Linux. The Manjaro software manager is sufficient to provide me any software I need such as Spotify, Plex Media Server. The AUR repository is a great addition to the standard Manjaro repository.
