How to Move VM Disk Storage on Proxmox

Welcome to Proxmox Tutorial. In this article, we will show you how to move a Virtual Machine disk from one storage to another storage. In the previous article, we learned how to add extra hard disk storage to a Proxmox system. If we have more than one storage, we can move or transfer the VM disk to another storage easily. For example, we can move the VM disk from an old hard drive to a new, faster SSD. Then, we can easily start the VM without having to reinstall the operating system and applications.

How to Move VM Disk on Proxmox

To move the VM disk storage, we need to shut down the VM. And then, go to the Hardware tab of the VM, and select the hard disk that we want to move. And then, click Disk Action | Move Storage. Choose the destination storage. Hit Move Disk and wait until the process completes.

Now check if the disk is located in the new storage. You will see there is an unused Disk in the hardware tab. You can delete it if you want. Now start the VM and make sure it runs properly.
