I just purchased the Avast Firewall (Avast Premium Security) to replace my Comodo Firewall in Windows 10. Everything works very well until I realize that my VMware guest machine cannot connect to the internet. When the VMware virtual machine network is set to bridge, the Avast Firewall will block the internet connection silently. There is no popup notification or any other message.
I just want to share this experience in case you have the same problem here. To solve this issue, there are two things you can do.
A. Change the Network Settings
Since Avast Firewall blocks the internet connection in bridge mode, you can switch to NAT mode. By selecting this NAT mode, the internet should work properly. But if you insist to use the bridge mode, then you must use the second workaround.
B. Enable Internet Sharing
This is might be the best solution you are looking for. To enable the VMware guest machine to connect to the internet, you must enable the “Internet Connection Sharing Mode”. To do this follow these steps:
- Open Avast main interface
- Go to Protection >> Firewall >> Settings
- Enable the Internet Connection Sharing Mode
Done. Now the guest machine should be able to connect to the internet.
Thank you
