Some of you may need software or application for your specific job. In this page, I will focus on the best accounting software for Ubuntu that available out there. In the beginning, I was thinking that finding a good software for Linux environment is very rare. Especially, when it comes to accounting software, financial software or even payroll software for business, Linux is still left behind Windows and Mac. 

But don’t worry, actually there are many great financial software for Linux you can use. I am going to list them in this article. I will add more software in the future everytime I found a new one. The installation instruction on this page is based on Ubuntu Linux. I hope you enjoy it.

A. GNUCash

GNUCash is a well-known, free and open source financial software. It’s available for Windows, Mac and also for Linux. It features double-entry accounting, small business accounting, customer/vendor invoicing feature and many more. GNUCash comes with a pretty nice user interface. 

To install GNUCash on Ubuntu, simply open Ubuntu Software Center and search for gnucash. You can directly install this software from there. If you are new to this software, simply open the Help menu and you can find many tutorials or how to use it. If you are Quicken user, you can also import the Quicken Import File to Gnucash. MoneyDance is another finance and accounting software that is available for Linux. It integrates with important features such as online banking and bill payment, account management and investment tracking. MoneyDance is suitable for both personal and small-business use. This is also one of the best accounting software for Linux. 

To install MoneyDance on Ubuntu, follow these steps:

  1. Download MoneyDance DEB Package from this page.
  2. Right-click the DEB file and choose Open with Software Install
  3. Click the Install button to start the installation
  4. Run MoneyDance
