Hello everyone, the new Ubuntu 20.04 is here. It comes with so many interesting features and performance upgrade. I can’t wait to give it a try on my new PC build with AMD Ryzen processor. If you are new to Linux, Ubuntu 20.04 or even any other Ubuntu releases are great for you. With so little efforts, you can bring up your new or old computer into life. In the following article, I am going to show you how to create a Ubuntu 20.04 USB bootable disk using Windows 10.

In order to try or install Ubuntu on a dedicated PC, you will need a USB disk. This flash disk will boot your computer to Ubuntu and then you can start the installation. Creating the bootable USB disk itself is very easy. There are a lot of software that can do this. Some of them will be explained here. So let’s start.

A. Rufus

Rufus is a handy software that can be used to create a bootable USB disk. Rufus is able to create a USB bootable disk for many operating systems such as Windows, Linux, FreeBSD. All you need is the ISO file of the operating system. It also supports direct download, but only for Windows OS.

Rufus supports permanent storage which enables us to create a bootable disk with permanent storage. We can save the settings and data to the USB disk. But this feature may not available for all operating systems.

B. Balena Etcher

Balena Etcher is an open-source, multi-platform USB bootable disk creator. It supports Windows, macOS, and Linux. It comes with a modern GUI and it is also very user friendly. Compared to Rufus, Balena Etcher has fewer features. It does not support permanent storage.

Balena Etcher is way simpler than Rufus. But, again, it has fewer features than Rufus.

C. Unetbootin

Personally, I haven’t tried this to work with Ubuntu 20.04. But it should. Unetbootin is a well-known software for such task. It is available for Windows, Linux and macOS. Unetbootin allows us to choose the source of the Linux distribution. We can directly download from the internet or use the existing ISO image.

Bottom Line

If I have to choose the best software for creating the Ubuntu 20.04 USB bootable disk, I would choose Rufus. It works like a charm and I never had problem with this tiny software.
