How to Install VirtualBox on Manjaro 18.0

Hello Manjaro users, welcome to my blog. Today, we are going to learn how to install VirtualBox on Manjaro 18.0. VirtualBox is a free virtualization software that lets us to run multiple operating systems on a single host. With this software, we will be able to run other OS on top of Manjaro.

Personally, I have been using VirtualBox for years and I am pretty satisfied with its performance. Mostly I use it for new Linux distro testing, and sometimes I use it to install various database applications such as MySQL, PostgreSQL and Oracle.

Steps to Install VirtualBox on Manjaro 18.0

VirtualBox package is available through Arch/Manjaro repository. So, we can install VirtualBox directly via Add/Remove Software in Manjaro. So, lets open Pamac Software Manager. Type “virtualbox” on the search box and then hit the search button. You will see list of matched packages/software.

As you can see, the first item in the search result is Oracle VM Virtualbox. Mark this and then hit Apply. Then, in most cases you will see the following message

If you are unsure which package to select. I would recommend you to open Terminal and check which Kernel you are running.

uname -a

Output:

Linux manjaro-gnome 4.19.0-3-MANJARO #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Oct 27 22:40:22 UTC 2018 x86_64 GNU/Linux

As you can see, I am running Linux Kernel 4.19, so I should choose the package “linux419-virtualbox-host-modules” from the list.

Now the download and installation process will start. Wait until it finishes.
